After over sixty years of being in service, it's sad to hear they're shutting down. I've flown Aloha a number of times from island to island, never from Oakland to the islands because it was a pain getting to Oakland from the city. I never had a complaint from them.

Kevo M. puts it nicely: Aloha `Oe... until we meet again.

Too bad for the bankruptcy & shut down. I enjoyed the $39 HNL to ITO flights while they lasted. I hope all the employees are able to find work soon...

Aloha Airlines filed chapter 11 bankruptcy and today is their last day of flying passengers to and from Hawaii.
I looooveed flying on aloha! :( the flights were dirt cheap and it was great service. interisland flights were only 19 dollars usually and from Oakland to Honolulu was 129-199 and you would get a meal and macadamia nuts!
what a sad day :(

I've flown back and forth enough to Hawaii to rate Aloha Airlines confidently, and my rating for them falls between three and four stars.  Perhaps it's my loyalty to Hawaii, but I feel bad rating them just a three (I'm really trying hard to remain objective here).

The good:
* Really friendly flight crew - most of the flight attendants are based out of Hawaii, and they really do bring the "Aloha" spirit, as cheesy as it sounds.
* Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.  Duh.
* I've almost always arrived on-time or early at my destination.  (But perhaps Aloha can't take credit for that completely, as they don't necessarily control the winds or weather.)
* Probably the most reasonably-priced airfares from Oakland to Honolulu.

The bad:
* $5 for the in-flight headphones.  WTF?  People still charge for that?
* No legroom.  Maybe I'm just spoiled because I flew Virgin America last week and had tons of leg room and seat room.
*  The seats are so close to one another that I couldn't put my laptop on my tray table while the lady in front of me had her seat reclined.  Tres annoying.

The ugly:
*There are only two bathrooms, located in the very rear of the plane.  The ENTIRE PLANE has to use those bathrooms, so watch what you eat and drink before you fly, lest you must continually get up and wait in line.

I am rating them 3.25 stars, rounding down to 3...definitely room for improvement, but it's not like you're flying Delta or ATA.

I like Aloha Airlines.  I like that they fly directly from Oakland to Honolulu.  Even better, unlike United, you don't have to take the Wiki-Wiki bus between terminals.  You stay in the same terminal for the inter-island flight and often they'll let you take an earlier one than what you've scheduled.  I understand they fly directly to Lihue, which we've never done, although we might next time.  We flew once directly to Lihue on United and were very uncomfortable because the runways there are short, so only 757s can take off and land there and they didn't have much leg room.  However, Aloha flies those nifty little 737-700s. so that might work.  Which brings up the downside a previous reviewer mentioned:  the two bathrooms everyone in coach has to share and the rhumba back and forth down the aisle, avoiding those traveling in the opposite direction.  There also seemed to be less leg room in coach than I remembered from our last Aloha flight a couple of years ago.  We flew over in coach and upgraded to first class on the way back this time.  More leg room up there.  Our server, as she introduced herself, was warm and helpful.  She took great care of us.  The food was good.  It was decent in coach, too.  One of the perks of flying business or first class is the private lounge.  Those of you who have been reading my reviews for a while know about Air New Zealand's Koru Lounge.  Five stars.  About Aloha's Ali'i Lounge...not so much.  The only food offered  was packaged cookies.  They wouldn't allow a sandwich to be brought in from the vendor outside.  The only beverages offered were an array of coffees, teas and hot chocolate. All good, but they only had  styrofoam cups.  Call me a queen (at my age, I'm too old to be a princess) but I don't drink tea from styrofoam.  Having the expectation of real food and real cups we'd planned to have us some lunch there, so we were mightily disappointed and relieved to have some of our favorite fruit and nut bars w/ us.  Didn't know at that point that we weren't supposed to eat them there, so we did.  Once we got on the plane we were fed and fine.

This airline is the worst. No wonder they went out of business.

Aloha has a few real nice virtues, and a couple of things to work on:
The first impression is very important... The airport staff are not easily understood, hasty, and sharp with you. the attendants uniforms look like witches costumes, I'm sorry, and they should really have an in-service for their employees who don't know when enough make-up is too much! WOWSA! we are talkin' clown paint!  So I guess the on board games are in the right context after all.
To be fair, the service on the plane is generally very good, and there is that cookie issue to consider... hot chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven can woo me any time!  Thing is, they don't serve them island hopping flights, which is what we did this last time, so seeing the positives was harder.

The pros:
-you're going to Hawaii. I mean, c'mon...
-warm chocolate chip cookies with milk
-in-flight food (we had a bagel/egg/cheese concoction that was disturbing, but hey- it's a flight and they're serving food, so that's a plus.)
-decent in-flight movie
-frequent, and generally competitive fairs to HI
-the staff were friendly

The cons:
-Inane advertising. Tons of it. There's a raffle for a $25 gift certificate for Crazy Shirts! that you can win in-flight.  There are commercials integrated seamlessly into the "pictures of Hawaii" reel blasting out at you from the tiny movie screens
-the tiny movie screens. They're small! And, placed sparsely throughout the cabin.
-the inane advertising. It really annoyed me

for interconnecting flights from island to island, you get to choose your seats. seats are 3x3 so my sister, cousin, and I got to sit altogether.

we flew during the afternoon so our meals were lunch meals and they were delicious! on our way to maui we had a chicken sandwich on a sesame bun and on our flight back home we had a mini italian sub. not bad, not bad. the chicken sandwich was good cuz they give you honey mustard to go with it! oh and for the last snack right before landing is the warm chocolate chip cookie with milk. lovely!

service was wonderful and always a pleasure. the staff passed out drinks. my cousin wanted a punch drink so the flight attendant made her a guava/passion fruit punch. very refreshing!

minus one star because you have to pay 5 bucks for the headsets to view the movie. i wanted to watch shrek 3 cuz we had 2 more hours to kill but i wasnt gonna pay 5 bucks for it! boo. but i opted for the Aloha Tourist magazines they leave for passengers to browse through. that helped killed time.

overall, great and comfortable service. ill be sure to fly with them again!

On time, friendly service, relatively new airplanes (oak to ogg), and warmed chocolate chip cookies with milk!

Will definitely fly with them again!
