I sampled the Bubblegum Cupcake at Cupcake Camp which took place at Citizen Space yesterday. Yes, an actual cupcake camp.
Anyway, it was quite possibly the most delicious cupcake I've ever tasted (next to the red velvet cake at Toast in LA) and it was bubblegum. Enough said. I'm definitely looking forward to trying their other flavors.

Well we wrapped up our wedding shenanigans this weekend with a home reception and CUPCAKES! That's right, I am off the wagon.
I am a cupcake-aholic. Since I decided to kick the cupcake habit after it nearly destroyed my relationship with everyone I cared about, I have been living cupcake clean for 6 months! Part of the recovery process is being able to be around cupcakes without overindulging or judging friends who can enjoy cupcakes responsibly. And really what is a special occasion without cupcakes? It is ass.
Long story even longer- I ordered a bunch of Devin's minis in choco-choco, coconut, and choco on top/vanilla on bottom (my fave) and didn't hide in the pantry eating half the box! In fact I only had three or four in spite of them being moist, tiny, delicious morsels of cakey buttery goodness with sprinkles on top...
Anyway, Devin makes great cupcakes, they come in right at market prices, they are delicious, and she delivers. Now I need to go visit my stash. Oops, did I write that out loud?

Like Kara, I too sampled the Bubblegum Cupcake at Cupcake Camp. (I had no idea such camps existed, but after discovering it for the first time, I think I'm hooked.... After all, what's better than cupcakes?)
Admittedly, I saw the Bubblegum Cupcake from across the room. I first saw it as I navigated my way through the party, back towards the mecca of cupcakes. There they sat - bright Bubblegum pink bursts of joy and splendid satisfaction - decorated with colorful gumballs to boot! The colors drew me in, but the fluffy pink bubblegum frosting had me scintillating with glee.
I watched. I waited. I talked. And then it happened. The cupcakes were on the run. The Bubblegum Cupcakes were finally being brought to the table to share. I followed Ariel as she brought them to the main table, and though immediately behind her - "nonchalantly" following her with anticipation - I was the girl who grabbed the LAST Bubblegum Cupcake! How could this be? I was following Ariel to the table! The only person between me and the cupcakes was Ariel. So how was I the lucky person to grab the last Bubblegum Cupcake? They're just that good. Period. EVERYONE in the room knew they would be that good. And they were.
I tell you, I have not had a better cupcake in my life. Moist, creamy, cake-like cupcake with the most superbly sweet, but not too sweet, pink frosting. And gumballs. Oh yes, gum-smacking gumballs to let the flavour linger...
In fact, I still am thinking about that cupcake - 4 days later. I have pictures of that cupcake up on facebook. I so thoroughly enjoyed that cupcake o' fun, that there was a camera man there at the event who did an interview of Kara and me with the Bubblegum Cupcake. (It's soon to be released.) Stay tuned, I'm not kidding. Really.
In the meantime, I'm off to search out the famed Cotton Candy Cupcake...

This is the best cupcake in the city (because Sibby's isn't IN the city), in my humble opinion. Now that I've tried eight cupcake places, I think I am in a position to make that judgment fairly. These cupcakes are moist and delicious, and the frosting is the perfect amount of sweet.
My only complaint is that there's no storefront yet. Or maybe that's a good thing, actually. I'd probably eat too many of them if I could get them whenever I wanted, all willy nilly like. And then I wouldn't fit into my wedding dress. And that would be bad. You know, because I already bought it and all.

My girlfriend needed a great dessert for her husband's 40th surprise birthday cocktail party. I had just met Devin and suggested she give her a call for some cupcakes. WOW! They were the absolute hit of the party! She ordered a selection of mini cupcakes, which were the perfect two-bite size. You could eat one, then another, and another, and get to try all of the incredible flavors.
The cake was moist and rich. The icing - creamy and delicious just like homemade! Perfection in small packages!
At one point someone climbed atop a table and screamed over the whole crowd: "These cupcakes are *&$@-ing amazing!" - which says it all!

"Ok, Yelpers, you've got me this time!" *shakes fist*
As much as I hate to admit it, I ordered cupcakes for my birthday party last week, mostly because of the extremely positive Yelp reviews (and a heads up from a friend of a friend.) I felt like I was tempting faith on this one recommendation but DANG! Those were some good cupcakes, yo! Y'all came through on this one!
Devin of American Cupcake made the most perfect little mini cupcakes in the 3 flavors I ordered - Black & White, Lemon Drop, and all my friends' favorite, Banana Pudding. All the cupcakes were made up of perfectly moist cake, fluffy frosting and done in the cutest presentation . Perfect ratio of icing to cake = YUM.
What more could a birthday girl wish for?
Well, maybe my guests saving me some of those Banana pudding cupcakes. ;P
Oh, and I know...Devin, get a storefront PRONTO! :)

Our batch of bubble gum cupcakes drew attention from across the restaurant. It was like a celebrity had walked into the room. The room hushed, people whispered, children pointed. You know how people get all timid when it comes to ordering dessert and only "have a bite"? Well, this was different. They sat in their perky, neat little rows as we glanced over them and made small talk. Finally, someone said "That's it. I'm going in". And then like magic, they were gone. Some of us ate two. Guys set one aside for their girlfriends/wives for later. It was like they were guilty they had one without them. Since when does that happen? American Cupcake is pure genius.

I love cupcakes but I don't normally buy them so I'm not an expert like other folks on here. What I can say is that I bought the banana pudding (with mini nilla wafers on top!), chocolate and vanilla mini-cupcakes for my engagement party based on the reviews here saying that these cupcakes were the best ever. I made anyone at the party I could get my hands on eat one and they all said, 'wow this is the best cupcake I've ever had!' I have to agree! They were so good I'll never buy a cupcake from anyone else again I swear. The mini's were a perfect party size too. The only mixed thing I will say is that I got hearts on the chocolate ones... they were kind of a gummy marshmallow heart... very cute, but too chewy, they didn't go with the fluffly light consistency of the cupcake. You could pick them off though so no harm no foul!

Wow, pregnancy brain really kills you. I cannot believe I forgot to review American Cupcake! The cupcakes are out of this world, made with yummy ingredients and one-of-a-kind flavorings. A must for every birthday, special occasion or just when you want a sweet treat!

Oh mah gah! I can only have these incredible gems if I order 50+ regular size or 100+ minis? Hahahahahahaha! You don't know me very well, American Cupcake, not yet at least. After tasting these amazing delights at the Yelp soir at Yerba Buena (particularly the coconut), my knees buckled, my sight became fuzzy, and had I been a mad scientist, tragically morphed by one of my own experiments by way of a terrible accident, my skin would have turned green, tearing away at my clothing from my bulging muscles' pressure, and I would have grabbed the entire multi-tier platter of crackcakes (yup, that good) and tossed the whole thing into my mouth. I haven't had an American cupcake since, but I sure cannot wait for the retail store to open. Anyone wanna go in on 100+ mini cupcakes?

I would love you guys even more if you would get a store in SF. I would love to be able to enjoy these without having to order them for some type of event... and lets face it, an order of 100 cupcakes or whatever just for myself is well... a bit selfish.
Best. cupcakes. ever. I highly recommend tasting these if you have the chance. I can typically take or leave most sweets but these are heaven.

Edit 7/08: when are they going to get a regular store where I can buy these more reguarly? :(

I thought cupcakes were for kids. I thought cupcakes were pretty much relegated to sticky, sweet, STIFF frosting piped onto little dry cakes. But last night, Yelpers were treated to some incredible delectables at the Holiday Party...thank you, thank you American Cupcake for changing my image of cupcakes forever.

Sweet jesus, these are little bits of heaven right here on earth! slurp slurp gulp.
American Cupcakes are by far the best cupcakes I've ever had (that I've paid for - Kristina R. ahem cough cough). Devin, the founder is an urban cupcake goddess and an incredibly nice person. Excellent product and excellent service. You can't go wrong. Plus the cakes are very cheeky looking which is always fun b/c it makes people giggle and giggling is fun.
The cake part was moist, the frosting light and creamy, and the size was perfect not too big, not too small.
Lot's of oohs and aahs. . .

One of the major pros about gettin' hitched is FREE cake tastings! After trying the traditional bakeries, we just felt like we were settling if we went that route. Enter Yelp and the great reviews that Devin has received. I called American Cupcake in the am and asked how I can buy a couple of her cupcakes to taste and she was so kind as to deliver complimentry cupcakes to us in the pm that same day! We knew it was fate in the first bite. Mmmmm...craving a cupcake right now. She was great to work with and all the guests loved the cupcakes!

cupcakes usually make me happy, but these made me sad! :(
after reading the rave reviews on Yelp, i was really looking forward to having these made as our wedding cupcakes. they come in all sizes, mini, regular, and even GIANT! (for the cake cutting part!)
we tried chocolate-chocolate, chocolate-vanilla, and vanilla-vanilla! the vanilla-based cake was moist enough, but the chocolate cake was dryer and harsher than i expected. maybe something about the cocoa. on both counts, we loooooved her frosting. consistently light and fluffy and in Devin's signature doodie shape. teehee!
because Devin was wonderful to work with and as excited about cupcakes as me, i would order her different flavors again for a birthday or shower. maybe we got a freak batch, but for our wedding, we need *exactly* what we're looking for -- which wasn't here i'm afraid.
be sure to give her a ring to confirm on the day of - just in case! don't want her rushing those cupcakes and giving you a freak batch like we had! xP
till next time doodie cupcakes!

American Cupcake, you are the cupcake of my dreams. Where have you been all my life? Tasted these little baked delights at the Yelp party and they are amazing. Bubblegum, Vanilla and Coconut - all delicious. The frosting is like a little pillow of yumminess for your mouth and the cake is moist and delicious.
When are you opening your store? I'll be first in line. But, please - not in the Marina where there are already cupcake bakeries. Spread the love and come on over to the Mission.

I love cupcakes.
Call it a regression to My Little Pony and rainbows and kittens and days when my gap-toothed, freckle-faced, myopic-glasses-wearing, dorky self fondly indulged my massive sweet tooth with ooey-gooey yummy cupcakes baked by a mom in someone's Betty Crocker style house.
The only other person who has made me cupcakes this swoon worthy has been my friend Alexis. I still say her carrot cake cupcakes rock the house but American Cupcake has everything else cupcake oriented down pat.
I ate 3 in a row at the Yelp Holiday Party and wanted desperately to make off with an entire tray but I was trying to be smooth and there's nothing smooth about a drunk girl trying to heist a tray of cupcakes in a museum full of people.
I was TRYING to be classy.
I wasn't quite but that was more due to the alcohol than the cupcakes.
American Cupcake made me so happy that when my beloved boyfriend called me his "Love Muffin" I bestowed the nickname of "Affectionate Cupcake" upon him.
Sorry for the cavity that intense bit of sweetness just gave you. Blame it on the cupcakes.

actually just have a question. what is it with girls and cupcakes? the womenfolk seems to have some especially lascivious desire for cupcakes not shared by other desserts and independent of the psychotropic effects of chocolate.
anyway, good place. not crazy good but very good. expensive though.

I just tried my first "American Cupcake" at a SFMoMA CX event last night. Sweet, moist, delicious, just the right amount of frosting on top. With flavors like Bubble Gum, Cotton Candy and Vanilla Vanilla, I'm in sugar heaven.
Right now owner Devin Glasser is focusing on catering fun events, but rumors are afoot of a bakeshop opening soon, make sure to sign up on AC's website to know what's up.

I have had the pleasure of these cupcakes before and wanted to share the experience with my girlfriends, so I ordered an assortment of minis for a baby shower I hosted yesterday. Such a fun and cute treat for a shower. Devin is very creative with the flavors and toppings and makes them so special for such an event. We had an assortment of white and pink frosted cupcakes with a variety of decorative toppings. They were beyond delicious and you'll be surprised just how many you can put away! Yea cupcakes!

I work for Zipcar. A moment ago, a Zipcar member came into our office with a box of American Cupcakes as a 'thank you'. He loves Zipcar and thought the best way to express his feelings was with teeny tiny cupcakes. Who are we to argue?
We all politely waited for him to leave before we descended on the pink box. These things rock! After staring at my first one for a long time, admiring its cuteness (and if it had been covered in fur instead of frosting, I would be petting it and talking to it), I popped it into my mouth whole. Divine! Light, airy, sugary (but not too). I'm having an internal battle with my inner skinny person about going back to have a few more. F*%K her! Bring me some more.

American Cupcake made my wedding special. I wanted to give the guests a take-away gift at the end of the night that they could enjoy back in their hotel rooms or the next morning. First of all, people were thrilled with the presentation. The swirl of frosting doesn't just look good, it happens to be the perfect ratio of frosting to cake. I have no idea how Devin does it. American Cupcake gave the perfect evening a wonderful ending!

Ready: American Cupcake is better than Magnolia's. Really. How this ends up in San Francico, I have no idea.... Each mini cupcake is two bites of heaven. The "regular" cupcake is monster sized. And there's just enough icing that every aspiring diabetic will be satisfied.
Variety of flavors -- some traditional, some experimental. My favorite is Cotton Candy. (Please keep this one -- don't go changing your menu on me... )
I'm regularly down for a nightime cupcake for that last craving before heading home... kinda sexy. Good for post-drinking food too (instead of pizza or pita). I guess I'd consider this part of a perfect date... wanna go for a cupcake with me?

I tasted the dreamy Vanilla cupcake at a friend's engagement party. Such a cute concept, and the dollop of frosting is devilishly delicious. I usually can tell when cupcakes come mass-made from safeway or costco but these guys' frosting is what sets them apart... I wish they sold little cups of just frosting so I could have my sugar fix whenever I wanted!
I talked briefly with the owner who says that they'll be opening up a storefront soon - deadly!
