I finally went to this place the other night, and I was amazingly surprised to discover that . . . OMG! There's a place within walking distance that kicks just as much ass as Serrano's!
The style is a bit different, but the prices are right, the slices are MADE TO ORDER, and they even do that thing where they cut your slice all asymetrically so you can take the smaller part home when you realize you can't eat the whole dang thing!
In short, I'm so excited; WE HAVE A CONTENDER!
I LOVE this place!
I used to work at a middle school in the mission and we ordered from this place ALL the time. We ordered so often that they were really great about adding plates and napkins and sometimes free drinks. I live in the East Bay and would sometimes pick up a pizza on my way to the BART station and bring it home! The people who work there are super friendly and funny. And the pizza? It's phenomenal. I only there was a Deja Vu in the East Bay!!
Let's start with the pizza itself. Loved the crust; it's a little on the sweet side (maybe a hint of cinnamon?) but thin and a great consistency. Top was a little oilier/greasy that I'd like. Overall, it's still above average.
The problem here, is they're selling pizza by the slice, which leads one to believe that if you're looking to stop in and grab a slice of cheese or pepperoni, they either already made or coming up shortly. They don't.
While I appreciated getting a piping hot piece in under 20 minutes, the guy behind me in line did not. In addition to walking in to the tiny place carrying a giant purple balloon, he started fuming "I've been here 15 minutes! If it's not ready in 2 minutes I'm leaving!" He got his slice a few minutes later, and sure the guy was a douche, but the growls from my stomach were in agreement with his frustration. Overall, I would say it wasn't worth the wait and the crowd, but that's not to say I wouldn't come back.

Great pizza, great prices, great people! Good for this area of town.
I've been around town and this is the place in this area. They do a really good job in the "slice" pizza category which is actually two large slices of pizza made fresh to order so a small group of people can order what they want. Sure you have to wait 10 minutes, but it's fresh! I've never had a bad pizza there. The crust is baked to perfection and the toppings are great. I mainly do pick-up and it's always on-time and hot. Ate inside the tiny place a few times and it's fine and a bit cozy.
Had the vegetarian, sausage and mushroom, chicken and pesto (one of the favorites) and other variety of toppings. Never tried one of the non-pizza items so can't comment on that.
I'm in favor of having pleasant folks serve and these folks are very nice. Seems like a family business and they're willing to please. Thanks!

This place gets 5 stars because they deserve it!
The pizza AND pasta are outstanding. They are also very nice too.
I order 2 cheese slices, which is really like a small sized pizza and
cut into 4ths. It's HUGE!
The pasta is absolutely perfect and I wanted to eat all of it in one sitting
but I couldn't because it was way too much food for one.
I go there a lot because it's right near me. Sometimes when I am feeling
extremely lazy, I call for delivery. Lame I know, but they are quick!
I've totally been here before.
Hee hee.
Oh, you've heard that one huh? No seriously, I've been to Deja Vu pizza before, but I didn't remember right away when I ordered for takeout last night because, well, the first time was at Deja Vu itself after libations.
For Dining in- the slices are so fresh and HUGE! It's a bargain deal, you can easily share 1 slice between two people.
For Takeout: Although I live 5 blocks away, delivery took a while - but the pizza tasted great after 45 minutes of idle time. I ordered 1/2 Dolores and 1/1 San Franciscan - both sides were great and just as important, equal. I also tried the little meatballs and garlic bread - they taste homemade. The best part of this experience though, was the salad. Incredibly fresh, crisp, and colorful. Who knew take-out salad could be that fresh? I was in heaven and now I have wonderful leftovers. Anyway, for takeout, the experience is just as good if not better. They don't skimp and they remember that presentation is still important.
I wouldn't recommend having green onions on the pizza - they don't chop them as finely before cooking the pizza and because of that they are more limp than flavorful on the pizza.
Good chew to the crust- not overly powerful on the sauce, and surprisingly not very greasy- even pepperoni. I'd order again, but only if I was hangin' out on Guerro
This place rocks. Fantastic fresh-made mini-pizzas for very cheap. I've never had anything like it. They call it a single "slice" but it's really a big arrowhead-shaped mini-pizza that they make fresh, from fresh dough with your fresh chosen ingredients put on top, with a healthy crust around the edges. It is SO GOOD and so cheap and so unique as far as I know. They cut it down the middle so it's really two slices of a mini-pizza. It takes a bit longer to make than grabbing a slice from under a heat lamp somewhere but MMM this is the real deal. You can choose from among a bunch of ingredients to customize. The ingredients are always fresh. Fave combo: sausage, spinach, tomato.
I have not ordered a full size pizza or deep dish or anything else here other than the individual slices. So my rating is solely based on the individual slices.
The owners are very nice and friendly people. There is no edge or attitude or gimmickry or anything else about this place other than making delicious fresh yummy pizza for cheap.
Decent grub and very accommodating service. Still have to say that A Slice of NY and Speederia down south are better, but when the midnight munchies attack, Deja Vu hits the spot.
Slices are HUGE.

Best pie I've had since Lombardi's in Little Italy NYC! I got the Vegetarian & added sausage. Taking Chantilly B's advice about the garlic, I asked for just a little. It's still enough to stave off a coven of vampires. Don't ever want to know what the regular slathering of garlic is like unless I had a roll of Tums in hand. Parking is a challenge, but it's great to get it right out of the oven.
I ate the crust. I NEVER eat the crust.

If it's not 2am when I'm stumbling to Cable Car for a discounted slice from my flirty friend who works behind the counter, I'm going to Deja Vu.
Tis true, you have to wait a while before you can sink your teeth into this hot and bubbly snack. But, it's worth the wait. They don't just have pies lying about waiting for your drunk ass to come in, they make your slice to order. A SLICE TO ORDER?! What? That's craziness you say? Indeed, good sir. Tis craziness.
I suggest you bring a book, an ipod, or order your slice and high tail it to a liquor store down the way. Because, you shouldn't be complaining about something that's fresh, hot and affordable. Also, the delivery guys kick ass. They are the coolest delivery guys I've met and are always over appreciative of the generous tips I hand them. Always rushing away.
No extra charge for the half pineapple and the half pepperoni. No charge for delivery.
Goddamn, this is some good pie.
Delivery was super fast, but it wasn't the best pizza ever. I mean, its not bad but it just didn't have a lot of flavor. I added red pepper flakes, oregano, and basil to give it more kick. I'd order again...if i've been drinking....
This is going to be short n sweet...This place is the place to be after partying at Double Dutch...Good pizza, great service, and just very chill.....luvvvv it!
Another inconspicuous place in the Mission that doles out good pizza. I won't even bother comparing Arinell's down the street since they're equally pretty good, but there's this thing most people, including myself, have about cleanliness and those that know Arinell's well, knows that it's definitely isn't its strong suit. Deja Vu cooks as you order and the freshness makes for one (or in my case, two) delicious slice. The cheese layer isn't overdone and the sauce ranges somewhere between mild & tangy. The dough came out slightly yet ideally crisp. Their slices are monstrous (odd-shaped yet pretty cheap) and can definitely hold you and your beer(s) over...if you're headed out to one of the nearby bars.
NY pizza is my gold standard for pizza. Deja Vu comes so close to NY pizza that I hardly miss the food of my homeland, which says a lot because I'm often bitching about how much I miss it.
Two things keep me from giving this place a 5 star rating:
- ordering by the slice takes up to ten minutes or more. It's definitely worth the wait, but you get the same pizza in NY a lot faster.
- slices are a bit pricey. You can get full on ordering just one slice. But if you're in the mood to pig out after a night of heavy drinking, two slices can run over $6. And well... it's just dough, sauce and cheese.
A great way to give Armpitsmell..., I mean Arinell the big ol' farewell finger forever. A slice is a crusty crunchy experience. Should you order a whole pie, you may ask for a thin crust and for it to be well done(that's how I roll). Not always consistent but great ingrediants and some imagination make Deja Vu special.

Chalk this place up as yet another great addition to my favorite SF 'hood: The Mission. I'm so lucky to live here!
Unlike many pizzas I've tried around The City, Deja Vu uses fresh toppings and their sauce is perfectly spiced without that sugar-laden taste like it just came out of a can (I'm not saying that it didn't, but if it did, it fooled me). If you prefer an East Coast style pie like I do, be sure to order your pizza well done and with a thin crust. Deeeelish! (BONUS: their delivery guy is totally friendly & kinda cute, too).

The pizza is pretty good - although it can get pretty oily - but then again pizza is not exactly a health food item right? I mix up my pizza ordering between the 5 other pizzerias around me. This one probably ranks #4 out of the 5 (Cybelle's sucks). But I like them because they have the option of pan pizzas and I can get my buffalo wing fix at the same time!
I reviewed CyBelle's pizza a while back as my least favorite pizza in the City. Now on to one of my favorites.
So... how does one choose where to order from? If you're from the old-school, you open the yellow pages and look for who's closest, or who has the biggest ad... if you're from the new school, you look online, starting from a google search, followed by Yelp reviews of your results.
If you're a cheap bastard like me, you go in the kitchen and rummage through the drawer that houses plenty of ketchup packets, unused napkins and myriad menus that get left on your doorstep on a daily basis. You then flip through them looking at coupons that best suit the situation at hand... flying solo? A pie for two or three people? Mega huge deal with wings and all? What is it you need to be delivered?
From there, you balance prices with options, much like ordering a new laptop (actually, the box is the same shape, pricing depends on options, and you use your lap for a table... hmmmm... maybe that wasn't such a stretch of a comparison)
After trying this method several times, I have skipped the first and second step and just ordered from Deja Vu the last few times. Why you ask? Well... you're reading this, so I guess you're interested in what they have to offer.....
First off, I've never had a cold, burnt or undercooked pie show up at the door. Always cooked to perfection and gooey hot. Even though they deliver to the Western Addition from the Mission. MMmmMmMm.... pizza.
Delivery times can vary. I waited over an hour once, and have never had them show up within a half hour. THis is good. It means that they're hand making my pizza. I'd rather wait a little while (or plan ahead and order earlier) than get factory made pie (Dominos?... fast because it's frozen)
The toppings are always fresh and yummy, although I have been in a groove with my favorite combo (Sausage, pineapple and jalapeo on half and pepperoni or plain cheese for the other half) However, when I've gotten peppers or anything else, it's fresh. Plus, I hear they have broccoli.
The drivers can find my house. I live on an obvious street, between two common cross streets, but drivers can't seem to find it. Cabs, pizza... whatever... I always get a call from the corner asking where I am. Not from the Deja Vu driver.... he rings the bell, and I have hot pizza.
But it all really comes down to crust and quality toppings. In my book, they are only second to Escape From NY in terms of delicious thin crust.
Anyway... remember to give the driver a little extra time to get there, and you'll be happy with your pizza experience. At this point, there are only Deja Vu and Escape From NY menus in the aforementioned drawer (and some Chinese menus, but the past two times I've ordered Chinese, either my son, or both of us get sick, so I don't look at those any more)

My new fav pizza joint since Serrano's fire accident. Deja Vu has the same great made-to-order slices that are heavenly and to die for. Great veggie options and love their selection of Purity and Honest Tea drinks.
Low prices and good pies. Yum!

I have a little theory about pizza: it's really hard to eff it up. Granted you can have varying degrees of pizza awesomeness, crapiness or boringness, BUT it's always pretty damn good. With that said, this was some pretty damn great pizza and I don't even like thick crust pizza.
It may have also had something to do with the fact that I have been moving and uprooting my entire life over the last few days and after a long ass day of inhaling paint fumes and stretching out muscles I didn't know I had, an old paint rag might have hit the spot, but just to double check, we ordered it again yesterday and it was the yums.
I'd recommend the sausage, pepperoni and mushroom pizza, although the bbq and pineapple with tomatoes was tasty too. They also have a really yummy Italian dressing that is even yummier if you mix it with the ranch. Good stuff and they deliver to my new apartment, so definite 4 stars! I'll definitely be devouring them again soon!

I have an affinity for many different types of pizza, paper thin, deep dish, hand made, or restaurant, chain or mom and pop. Its all about doing what your doing well, not about conforming to a specific standard. So with that in mind i am giving Deja Vu's pizza 3 stars. The stars are for nicely flavored sauce and bread, and for fresh well proportioned toppings. The two stars less are for taking so long to deliver an almost cold pizza (i can wait quite a while for a piping hot fresh pizza) and for tough hard to chew dough (like it had been over kneaded). The dough was tough enough to make it unpleasant and reheating it made it inedible.
I do think if these two things were remedied i would order from them again.
Medium thin crust. enough sauce to notice, i would say proportionate, if you like it saucy, maybe ask for more.

I'm giving Deja Vu four stars, which feels like a bit of a higher rating than is actually appropriate, but it's reliable and consistently good (not great). We played pizza delivery roulette for a while unsuccessfully before finding it, and our good faith in having decent pizza delivery has been restored ever since. Here's what you need to know for maximum results:
- Be aware if the pizza you choose lists garlic as one of its ingredients. If you're not used to having garlic poured like salt over your food, then opt out.
- The crust is a little bit doughy, get thin if you're not into it.
- If you're feeling guilty and want to get some veg in you, the salads really aren't too bad, much more than the expected 3 pieces of lettuce, a tomato, and some dressing. They actually have more than one kind of salad with a little more than your average trimmings. It's actually amazing that one can even get any sort of vegetable arrangement delivered this late at night.
I'm also constantly impressed by how fast they are most of the time. Always at my door in 35 minutes or so. If you want a good all around delivery experience, this is who you call. It's good in that "Costco" kind of way.

I've never actually been in the restaurant; however, I've ordered takeout on many an occasion. And by "occasion" I mean Sunday nights when I'm experiencing a bout of debilitating self pity and/or overwhelming disgust that I've neither showered nor changed out of my pajamas.
Despite this, Deja Vu has got my back. The sexy delivery man is also chipper and cheerful and never has a judging look in his eye when I come out of my apartment door (yet again) with a desultory lag in my step and a droopy $20 in hand. The guy around the corner who sells me the wine? Well, he's a story for another day...

I have a friend who knows a thing or two about pizza.
Whilst talking about pizza, I mentioned how much I loved Arinell's.
Said friend was flabbergasted, noting how off I was, how horribly horribly wrong I was to think these things.
Then said friend showed me the way....the way to AMAZING, heart-stopping, melt-in-your-mouth pizza...and this pizza was at Deja Vu.
Seriously, folks: for chump change, you get what they call a "slice," though it's actually a MADE-TO-ORDER mini-pizza in the shape of a big slice (it equals about a third of a large pie), sliced in half to be actually TWO slices.
And, what's more, at lunchtime (11 a.m.-6 p.m. HAH!), you can get a "slice" of cheese, a salad, and a soda for $4.75. Yeah, BEAT THAT elswhere.
I got the Pesto Delight...and it was absolutely heavenly.
AH! This place is my FAVORITE pizza joint in San Francisco, now. Hands down.

Ordered delivery from Deja Vu for the first time and was very pleased. Arrived quickly, hot and delicious. Good, tasty toppings, especially like that the American bacon is precooked. (Raw bacon is very nasty) Price was right. Will definitely be ordering from them again.
I get my hair cut and colored at the salon next door to Deja Vu. This place is so good and the slices are like practically a quarted of a pie. For around 3 bucks you get a HUGE slice that definitely will fill you up.
Deja Vu only makes your slice upon ordering so even if you have to wait a few minutes, it is the freshest crispiest meltiest pizza right at your fingertips.
The sauce is a good mild tomato that lets the quality mozarella shine through. I like their pepperoni and artichoke hearts.
They are so friendly and sometimes when I am at the salon, I order on my way in and they deliver me the slice while I am getting my hair dyed. It is like the ultimate in pampering treatments!
Deja Vu is a must visit when in the need for a quick bite in the mission district. Made to order slices are TASTY and cheap. Plus the portions are HUGE. It's really two slices for the price of one, with perfect crust and sauce. I haven't tried their non-pizza italian offerings but they are probably decent.
Go get your two slices, eat one, then experience deja vu with the second.
it's not really new york or chicago style. it's just pizza, and everything is made to order. you can't beat a cheese slice for 3.50 that's the size of a personal pizza.
Ordered it a couple of times....its pretty good.
Doughy....and quick.
If that's your thing, this is your pizza.
Listen up stupid heads, Deja Vu is the best pizza in San Francisco. Slices is cheap, big, and bomb. I don't wanna hear about Arinells or Little Star or any other wack trendy pizza. So shut your pie-hole. Pizza pie-hole that is!!!! LOL LOL LOL LOL.

i do not usually eat pizza.... but i was having a lazy weekend and s wanted pizza so last sunday we decided to order some to go with our movies and video games. We turned to yelp and randomly found this place. Ordered one small cheese pizza and an extra large that one with Canadian bacon and cheese and onions, with added chicken. All Chicago style deep dish. Also a cesar salad and garlic bread and diet soda. This came out to $50 something but there were 3 of us so $20 each is good. delivery was fast (mission to castro) and when it arrived, the can of soda was a 2 ltr (still in our fridge half a week later) and the extra large pizza was GIANT! And the pizza was the most filling pizza ever. Just a mound of cheese and stuff. J could only have 2 pieces and I could only have one and a half. And we're big eaters. S managed a couple more, and the salad. But we had tons and tons leftover. Tons. The box wouldn't even fit in the fridge. The pieces were so big we had to eat them with a fork and knife... I was full the whole rest of the day, till it was time to eat our brownie sundaes... last nite I had one more slice that was leftover... I ate it cold and I actually liked it even better. still really filling, (even the crust was filled with cheese and pesto), but easier to eat, and really tasty. So go here, but if you order an extra large, know you have meals for the next week. The only bad thing id say is could have used more of the meat on that... it was hard to find the veggies and meat with all that cheese. But good.

OK, really. Do people actually say, "za"? Really? For reals? Without irony? On purpose? Come on. Really?
Anyway, I digress. This brings me to the sauce. THE SAUCE!! So good to have a pizza that has a really great spicy sauce. The crust is pretty good, they deliver and they cost about 5-10 bucks less than the competition. So far, I haven't had enough experience here to qualify for 5 stars, but we'll see.
Honestly, "za"?
Sometimes, if I'm not in the mood to walk the entire 3 blocks to Arinell Pizza, I end up here. It isn't the world's greatest pizza, but you do get to custom order your slices. This is unique in SF, and a good marketing ploy.
On a side note, does anyone from the Seattle area remember the chain strip club Deja Vu? With the "101 Pretty Girls, and 3 Ugly Ones"? I can't go to this 'Vu without thinkin' of that 'Vu. The two are completely unrelated other than the name. Go 'Vu!

I have had their pizza delivered twice. For the quality, I have not seen a better price. I liver near Fillmore and Geary and great delivery pizza around here does not exist. The first time, I ordered a regular crust pizza. The crust was a little too chewy, but there were good herbs in the crust and pretty good overall.
Just tonight I ordered what Deja Vu calls a "deep dish" pizza, which turned out to have regular-sized crust in the middle, huge crust on the edges and waaaay too much cheese dumped on top, being held in place by the crust edges. It was like a big cheese and topping lake. I thought deep dish meant thicker crust, not a disgusting amount of cheese.
Summary: Cheap, pretty good regular crust pizza. STAY AWAY from the "deep dish" or you will be drowning in cheese. Can't speak on the rest of the menu because I haven't tried it. If you're on foot, go to Little Star Pizza--best I've ever had anywhere.
Never Again!
My wife and I have been ordering from here for years and never had a problem until last night. The pizza arrived late and cold and it wasn't made right. We called and they offered us a $3 credit! What? We wanted full credit and they would not budge. We will never order from them again. If you have a complaint don't expect them to bend over backwards to fix the problem.
The Best! it is made per order so don't think it's quick though!! you gotta wait for the best and freshest... and the lunch special includes salad and soda and goes till 5pm, less than $6 even w/ tip. I love this place and as the mission becomes more and more gentrified it's nice to have a decent place to eat for us folks who ain't rich!!! the pasta rules too.

I've wavered between Chicago-style and east coast pizza for most of my life now, but I've finally found the answer.
A thin, crispy crust is the only way to go. Toppings and cheese should not overpower the crust; if it takes a knife and fork to reasonably eat, it is not pizza. You should not fear cheese-blindness from one slice of pizza. It should be difficult to kill yourself choking on cheese with pizza, though one reviewer above clearly tried very hard.
Deja Vu makes the best crispy-crusted (and therefore best over-all) pizza I've ever had. Their "slices" are the size of about two slices at other pizzerias such as Cable Car. As mentioned, every slice is freshly made so you don't have to get the one slice of vegeterian pizza that's been sitting out all day - I thought this was San Francisco, how is it that most pizzerias have one readily available vegeterian pizza? Anyway, each slice is encrusted all around in ... crust.
There are specials listed on the board, but I would steer clear of most of them. The Pesto Delight, a slice with pesto, feta, broccoli, and sun-dried tomatoes, is good, but overly busy. The Californian is a heap of 4 different cheeses for those that enjoy risking their lives whilst eating pizza. The real problem with the specials is that they have too many ingredients. Limiting the toppings to two ensures that the crust remains perfectly crispy and the slice is never soggy. This also limits the price to $3.95, cheaper than any burrito in the mission but just as filling.
The ideal order consists of a two-topping slice and a vanilla soda, totalling in the sub-$6 range. Call ahead 10 minutes and it will be waiting for you when you arrive.
