They have good lumpia shanghai and arroz caldo. If you catch the fresh batch of pan de sal, theyre actually pretty good.
Plus for having little sweet treats like macapuno balls, yema, ube balls and pastillas--those are so good!
They might have good cakes but the ones I tried were a little dry and I didnt like the frosting too much--but thats just me.
Ooo yeah they have pretty good halo-halo too!
Had I written this review BEFORE I ordered an entire menu for catering, I might've given them 5 stars. I've been a loyal fan of their tocino, kare kare, and sinigang for at least 15 years. To be honest, I have never really ordered anything else, haha. Except the cakes, which are OKKKKAAAAY. I guess the big specialty wedding cakes are the best thing about the place. For my kids' birthday, I ordered a cake that was half chocolate and custard and half vanilla and mango. The side with the mango was disgusting.. I'm sorry. They filled it with some kind of lemon custard. YUCK. Then came the food... I guess it was all right. Nothing spectacular, but the dinuguan was all chunks of fat, and runny ass soup. The pancit was spoiled, and to be honest, the food was too expensive. 600 for a few dishes.. I mean, the best part about the place was that they deliver. I can't say I'll ever order from there ever again for catering... but their sinigang has never done me wrong, which is why they get the 3 for average stars.

I went there last night with 2 friends for take out. I ordered some chicken adobo. The other 2 ordered kare kare and the lumpia combonation plates.
We also order some turon and some leche flan for dessert.
The Chicken adobo was DRY and was served with very little sauce. Come on now. This sauce is what makes adobo and it was almost non-existent. The chicken did not taste right, maybe because it was so DRY. I would not recommend this platter.
My girlfriend ordered kare-kare. She was craving it and wanted to try someplace other than Goldilock's. The kare-kare did not even tasted like kare-kare. At least not what I am used to. It was more redish in color and it DID NOT taste that GOOD at all. I 100% would not recommend this platter....unless you feel like wasting $8.
My other friend ordered the Lumpia. Nothing to complain about here. If you mess up on lumpia, I dont think they should open their doors ever again. It tasted good, but like i said...its lumpia.
The combo platters came with rice and pancit. Nothing wrong here either. Pancit was actually good.
What was the highlight of the night was their leche flan. That was really good, especially since I have not had this in a VERY LONG time. It was a last minute impulse buy, and if we did not have purchased it, I would only given 2 stars for my experience with this place.

This place may be a bit hard to find, but believe me it's worth the trouble. My family has been going here for over twenty years and we still enjoy their lumpia and all their other goodies. There's nothing like a bowl of Arroz Caldo soup on a cold day, and Gold Ribbon's is delicious. I can remember as a child looking forward to ordering my birthday cake at Gold Ribbon and flipping through the pages of their cake designs. Even now I'll still amble over and grab a couple pastries from their dessert counter while I'm there. Twenty years and some change and I still frequent Gold Ribbon when I'm feeling peckish for Filipino food.

Nice little hole in the wall place next to Great Mall! I've only ordered Lumpia from this place and I really like the taste of it, not as oily and not so... lacking in flavor! I don't know what kind of Sweet N Sour sauce they got going on there, but it tasted like it was homemade! Wow, preety impressive. Nice people there!

I've just had pan de sal here so far. It was okay, but I prefer Valerio's a little bit more.
Food review on the way.....

So bummed - we went on Sunday after having dinner, but they shoo'd us away saying they were closed - wow, it was 2 minutes to 6pm on a Sunday!
Don't know their specific hours, but someone needs to update Yelp. Apparently, they close at 6pm on Sundays.
Bummer.
my coworker's brother used to be a cook for this place...after what she told me about this place, ugh...i'll pass!
they'll reheat/cook and serve spoiled food.
I like this place a lot better than Goldilocks. The food is pretty good and the prices are very reasonable, and they're the only place I've been to that puts leche flan in the halo-halo.
....i'm hungry now.

We used this bakery for our wedding cake. It's a family business and that is something that really appealed to us. We had 4 flavors of cake, and it was hard to choose even those.
Our flavors:
Chocolate cake with fresh strawberries filling
Vanilla cake with fresh strawberries filling
Vanilla cake with crushed pinapples filling
Mocha cake with Mocha crunch filling
The only thing that I would say is that if you are expecting a fancy cake with fondant and fancy piping, probably not the place for you. If you are looking for a more simple cake with a lot of heart, then don't think twice. This is the place for you.
We really like the person we worked with. She really cared about the wedding.

This restaurant is just up the street from where we live, making it a staple in our home.
The combo lunch meals are great, because they are reasonably priced (under $8, I believe), and include 1 entree, monggo soup, and rice.
As far as the cakes, I still prefer Red Ribbon's mango cake over the one from Gold Ribbon and the Ube Macapuno that I ordered the other week was a bit dry for my taste. However, their cakes are reasonably priced, so I still go there when I'm in a pinch.
Last year, I ordered their Holiday Ham and it cost me around $49. It was a hit at my party, so I'd definitely order that again.
The location can't be beat, because it's right across the street from St. John's church and it's right on Main St.
It can get quite drafty there, so where a jacket (trying to save on heating?).
The staff is hit or miss, and really depends on the day of the week.
Overall, it's a reasonably good place to go for Filipino food.
Bakery is fantastic. Their cakes make me happy.
The regular menu food is so-so but still way better than Goldilock's (see my other review). And some people may think it's weird, but I like the slice of leche flan in my halo-halo.
Filipino restaurants have a proclivity toward trays, which give them a cafeteria feel. For as nice as this place is, it'd be nice if your food was brought out to you, but that's just me being picky.

After realizing that Pepper Lunch was closed during the 3pm to 530pm hour(s) on a Sunday (saddddd), we looked around and saw all those asian restaurants where NONE of them appealed to the given appetite. Within a spark of genius, I said Filipino food. My friend decided to take me to "Old Ribbon"...oh wait, Gold Ribbon. sorry.
The lady at the register was absolutely wonderful, but for the fact that she knew my friend from many years at the nearby church. But, the register lady was very hospitable to all the customers in the line. Star 1 given.
The food was a bit dry. Being who I am, I only order what I know what is...Chicken Adobo with Steamed Rice. Yum. It did taste good, they did serve a lot, but the chicken didn't seem as fresh as I expected. And like I said before, it was dry. It wasn't served with enough soupy yummy sauce...SOUPY YUMMY SAUCE (say like Homer). *drool.
No soupy sauce, no star. BAM...gone!
So you ask, why 2 other stars...well, I can't base the whole restaurant on that one entree, so until next time, ya'll get the 3 star treatment.
Like...O.M.G.
I'm from Utah, and the first time that we came to the Bay Area back in 1988 to visit, this is the Filipino place that we found. Fast forward 19 years, and I still remember my first visit and their wonderful, tasty Filipino foods. The pastries are great, the serving sizes are good, and the best thing ... it's not as busy as Goldilock's and they ain't measurin' and weighing everything they give you!

For a chain name they sure are affordable... unlike....Cough cough Goldilox.
Love the food there and the people really want to try and get to know you. Take some time out of your day and stop by. If you don't know what to order just ask. Also I tried tipping and the guy gave me my money back and said he'd rather I buy somemore food instead. bought some Turon and he said Salamat. Worth the trip.
I love this place, much better than goldilocks. The staff is so friendly during the week. But when I went there on a weekend, the staff were so mean.
But I love the puto bung bong, kare kare and caldereta.

They serve authentic Filipino food here. It's done right, not too greasy, and just the right amount of seasoning (others tend to be on the salty side). They also have great desserts and pastries!
