Avondale (North-South, Northeast-South, East-West, Proctor Creek)
I was looking for a new place after moving to Atlanta, and a friend recommended Grow. I checked the reviews and they were good, so I went ahead and made an appointment. My stylist was Adrianne and she was great. I have a hard time describing or knowing what I want, so I gave her a few guidelines and walked out of there with a great haircut and style. I am very happy...I haven't had a style this good in a loooong time. I went ahead and made my next appointment before leaving! And like other people have mentioned, it was very friendly and casual inside so I didn't feel out of place. I would definitely recommend.

I've had my hair done here 4 times now and while I am tempted to go elsewhere (only because of the long drive) I just can't fathom changing stylists and risking a bad hair cut. I've been going to Dorothy for cut and color and she's done an amazing job and always makes sure I leave happy. The salon is cute and relaxed, unlike other stuffy salons and the rest of the staff always seems very nice and helpful.

I have a tendency to be stingy, and generally the first thing to be forsaken when I'm feeling cheap is a good haircut. As a result, I hadn't had my hair professionally cut in nearly a year (having had a trim about 8 months prior from a friend in cosmetology school). But my hair had become unruly and shapeless, so, having read the great reviews here, I gave the folks at Grow a call.
I was able to get an appointment the next day (a Friday), though for her own sake, I won't say my stylist's name.
Few things upset me more than a stylist who doesn't listen. I wouldn't be persuaded to say that she doesn't listen if not for the fact that she cut my hair more than an inch shorter than I asked. I said "no shorter than shoulder-length." I also requested asymmetrical bangs and face-framing layers that would look good straightened. I know that most stylists don't like it when you try to bring in pictures of what you want, so I was as vague as possible while still giving her a definite outline from which to work: still lengthy, layered, with bangs.
What I got was a bob. And I. HATE. Bobs.
My hair is now as short as my jawline. Rather than giving me thickening layers, she all-but-shaved the underside of my hair so that my outer hair is inclined to curve inward. My jawline is not nearly defined enough for this style of hair. I never thought I'd say it, buy my hair actually makes me look fat!
Also, I didn't get layers, clearly. I got the bangs I wanted, but that was about it. In place of "layers," there are decided little chunks of hair on my right side that are far too short, and they're on top of the rest of my hair! They're as short as my bangs, but way back coming out of the crown on my head on the right side. Totally WRONG. It looks disastrous and makes styling incredibly difficult.
Furthermore, to my horror, when I got home I found that she had *missed* a spot of hair. And right by my face, no less! There was a chunk of strands of hair that was two inches longer than everything else, just hanging there blatantly!
Grow Salon gets two stars from me because the salon itself was cool and the people were friendly. But this cut--I could have gotten closer to what I wanted by cutting it myself! I could have gotten a nicer cut at some national chain $10-a-pop place, and at least a stylist at a place like that would have been so kind as to listen to what I wanted, not to mention I would have saved $35. :( :( :(

After reading all the great reviews for Grow, I decided to give it a try. I have always gone to the "economy" hair salons and been disappointed probably half the time. I called Grow for an appointment on Wednesday and they had just gotten a cancellation for Saturday. A very good omen!
(Not)
I had a couple of pictures of what I had in mind, which I showed my stylist. He did mention I would need a flat iron for the layers that I wanted. No problem.
I was very nervous and I'm not very talkative anyway, so it was a bit uncomfortable. I almost feel like he decided to get it over with ASAP. Twenty minutes from start to finish, including shampoo.
He basically chopped my hair to a pixie cut, with horrible short bangs and little chunks sticking out around my ears! The bangs look like ****!
I will never go back! There is nothing I can do now but let it grow for a few months and go back to square one to find someone who actually tries to give me the style I want (or something even close).

Perfect. I've been going to Grow for over a year and change now, and Cregg has taken care of me the entire time. The atmosphere is great, the vibe is nice, and it's pretty damned reasonable, price-wise.
Can't recommend it highly enough. They will do your hair right and you will look sexsational.

I waited for the third haircut before writing this review.
I had, for six years gone to another salon. It was with great trepidation that I started looking for somewhere else, when a friend and ex-coworker of mine suggested that I try Grow.
I called and made an appointment, they selected Chris as my stylist. I showed up that day, and for the two subsequent appointments to find that Chris was running right on time and ready to cut my hair as scheduled. I have tried several other salons in Atlanta, and this is a rarity.
The cuts I have received have been excellent, and I have quite enjoyed chit chatting with Chris as well. I like the vibe of the salon with it's stained concrete floors and tool box for stylist station decor.
The prices are solid, the salon on time and reliable and the cuts good, what's not to like?

Oh my gawd. Finally a salon in Atlanta that does make my ears bleed from the too loud techno drumbeat. Did my heart stop? No, it was just the 3000 bpm bass.
Amy is truly the best colorist out there. She is hilarious & will be honest about which hair colors will work & won't work for your skin type. I think one time I asked her if I should go black. She honestly told me I'd look like a groupie from My Chemical Romance. I think when I came home, my husband was going to kiss her for talking me out of it.
The vibe in Grow is the calmest & most tranquil of any Salon I've been to in Atlanta.
A gajillion stars.

I love this place. The first time i called, they asked me my hair type without my having to tell them (as someone with curly hair, getting the right person is very important). I went to Alison, she gave me a great cut.
I've recommended grow to several people, all with different hair types, and they've all been very happy.
it also helps that it's walking distance for me.

Graig cuts my hair here. I get compliments all the time from random strangers. If he is busy I can always get in with someone else. Not only that it's really a cool spot, nice artwork, and a glass of wine to boot!

I went to Grow (based on several Yelp reviews) for the first time a couple weeks ago. I got a great cut and style from Eric, and the staff was very friendly and professional. I recommend the salon as well as stylist Eric.

Both two friends' recommendations, and all the yelpers drew me to here. I have an important interview on Friday so I wanted my hair to look fabulous. I got an appointment with Dorothy, and she was quite simply amazing. She did a fantastic job on my hair, she was really nice, and I just felt completely at ease, and that hasn't happened at a hair salon in years. I have to echo the sentiments of others who have said, quality stylists, unpretentious style which is a god send with the likes of stiff, uncomfortable chains like Van Michael's.
I also liked how after my haircut they asked if I wanted to reschedule. I tend to put off rescheduling hair appointments, so now I have another appointment with Dorothy in March.
As long as we live in Atlanta I plan on coming to Grow again and again.

I've been seeing Eric since before he worked at Grow. He has helped me with many different hairstyles, (mostly because I can't make up my mind). I have had it short, then he helped me through the painful process of growing it out and then back to short again. I have always been happy with his suggestions and his talent. I recommend him to anyone who asks.
I also like the atmosphere at Grow, it is a little far for me to travel, but it's worth the trip.

Love it! Dorothy has been coloring my hair for almost a year now. She does a great job!!
The space is very nice without being overly trendy. The staff is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable.
I would definitely recommend giving this salon a try!

I had been going to Martha before she worked at Grow and was very wary of her being in a new place. I was pleasantly surprised!
Everyone at Grow is nice and personable, not the usual snobbiness you get at most salons. It's relaxing and fun and always clean. The products are great and everyone is very helpful! Even the receptionists are the nicest I've ever dealt with, and I've worked in the industry for 4 years. The complementary "drinks" are great too.
Martha is FANTASTIC! Every cut and color I have ever had from her has been beyond what I could have dreamed for myself. I always walk out feeling amazing and comfortable. She also makes it really easy for me to duplicate the style at home and works with my natural hair! She is also one of the sweetest and best people I know!

I heart Grow. I have short hair (which I think is the hardest style to cut and really shows the stylist's skill) and Dorothy is hands down the best stylist I've ever had. She's incredibly patient and keeps cutting until I'm happy (and never agrees with me when I say how neurotically fussy I am). Amy does my color, and I just love her, too. What I like most about Grow (and other people have said here): unlike many salons in Atlanta, it's probably the best salon in the city and the least pretentious. I have zero patience for the Buckhead water on a silver tray scene, which I found laughable after living in other major cities. This salon is friendly, affordable, has a great design aesthetic and the fabulous Bumble & Bumble line. I've hopped a lot of salons in the past, but have been at this one for three years now...and have never gotten more compliments on my hair.

I've never been to this salon and I live in California, but if you're looking for an amazing stylist you should go see Eric @ Grow Salon.
I worked with Eric for almost three years at a salon in Berkeley, California and he was one of our top stylists, best educators, and all around great guy. He is greatly missed out here in California, but I'm sure if you go see him in Georgia you will be very happy!

I've been going here for over two years. Amy does my color and Marcus does my cut. Both are fantastic. I always get compliments.
They're very reasonably priced, always very friendly and professional. Spending time with both of them is like visiting with old friends. We talk. We laugh. and then my hair looks great.
My daughter goes to both as well. I've recommended them to several friends - and all have been happy as well.
They are a little hard to schedule an appointment with, so my advice to you is to make your follow up appointment before you leave.

If you go to Grow, you have got to see Dorothy (especially if you have short hair). At least twice a week I receive a compliment about my cut and get asked where I go to.
My mother did my cut and color (she is a professional) until 3 years ago. After that, I was never satisfied until I went to Grow. I trust Dorothy to give me a cut that works with my hair texture and face every time. The other stylists seem to be just as wonderful also. Everybody is so friendly and down to earth. I think the best advice when you visit Grow is to trust the stylist completely. They definitely know what they are doing.

I went to Robin on recommendations from girlfriends, and she gave me a great cut!! It was a pretty drastic move for me, and I was a little bit nervous. She cut about 9 inches off of my hair, and I really love it.
Also, I didn't have any problem getting in touch with them. I had to move my appointment around a couple of times, and I was able to talk to a person each time I called.

My mother taught me if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. I apparently failed that lesson and the proof follows.
I found Grow through Yelp! when my regular stylist maven was unavailable - as of last Tuesday I was two or three weeks past due and chomping at the bit because when you have short hair you just can't do the over-due thing. At least I can't, so I Yelped and I found Grow.
The reviews posted about Grow on Yelp! were quacktastic so I called on Wednesday morning. Voicemail with a "we won't return your call" greeting. Okay, I'll try again. Wednesday afternoon. Again. Thursday: the same. Friday: "Sorry, we're closed for a private event Friday and Saturday". Okay. Sunday and Monday they're closed for normal reasons.
It's now Tuesday a week later, I'm getting voicemail *again* and when I combine this with the over-a-year-old and no hours on the website --- do they really exist?
Sounded like a great place, I'm sorry I missed it.

I went to Grow because 1) great reviews, voted Best Of, blahblahblah and 2) I lived in Avondale Estates, a mere 5 minutes from Grow.
Bien: I like the peeps, their work, the groovy building.
Mal: It's on the expensive side and it's very hard to get an appointment.
I've since moved and moved on, but I still have fond memories of Grow. Robin rocks.

You know that dreaded feeling when a stylist finishing up your new cut, and all you want to do is race to the car to "fix" it? Grow is the first salon where I didn't have to do that; in fact, every time I have leave the salon, I try my hardest not to mess it up!
My stylist is Britney, and I just love her. For my first appointment, I brought in photos of the type of hairstyle I wanted, and unlike many other stylists, she wasn't put off by this at all. And when she was done, it was just great! As I had hoped, she took elements from each of the photos I brought in, and the result was a unique cut.
My last haircut included brown and red highlights. In a two-week period, I received about 15 compliments, no kidding! When people compliment you that much, you know the stylist must be good!
My only beef with this salon is the hours. If you work in Atlanta until 6pm like I do, you won't be able to get an appointment during the week (they stop taking appointments at 6pm). That makes Saturday the only day I can come in, which can make it hard to get an appointment. Having said that, though, I usually just book my next appointment while I'm there, and I don't ever have issues.

Nice place, nice people. I tried to get color correction after getting bleached into a brassy blond and it didn't look too much better after paying quite a bit for them to try to tone it down. I went on a friends referral who had a great haircut though.
I love Grow! Cregg is the best...I've been going to him for over a year now, and I wouldn't think about going to anyone else. Everyone on the staff seems very talented. The atmosphere at the salon is great, as well. Everyhting is immaculately clean. I'm always offered drinks and such. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the services. I love it...Give it a try!

After reading the great reviews Grow has received I figured that this was the place to go to repair the slew of bad haircuts I've had these past few months. I called 90 minutes before they closed Saturday afternoon in hopes that they might be able to squeeze me in but they were booked solid. They said they'd call me back if there was a cancellation since I was only going to be in town until Sunday. 30 minutes later my phone rang, it was Grow calling to tell me that they hadn't had any cancellations but that I could call Dass salon since they're open on Sundays.
So even though I didn't get my haircut at Grow, I give them 4 points for understanding that I needed to get my hair cut right away and that since they weren't able to do it, they recommended a competitor.
I'm so happy I found Grow through Yelp!
Allison gave me a wonderful cut when I decided to go short and donate my hair. The staff is exceptionally friendly and the place is not stuffy or snobby at all. Best of all, my cut and style was only $45. By far the best and most inexpensive cut I've gotten in Atlanta.

the perfect place for your metamorphosis
Robin and Dorothy keep me pretty, but not precious and won't let me do anything stupid. It's a wonderful, comfortable salon, that never feels crowded, even on Saturday mornings. There's plenty of parking, but appointments are scarce so book ahead.
I've gotten my hair cut here a few times now. it's a nice place. I pay $25 + tip and get a haircut worth more than that everytime. everybody I work with gets their haircut here two of us with kris and two of us with holly. we're stylin.
