So I'm still learning the wine game...I like it but I'm not 100% yet...but I want to so I'm trying!
But...I love the free option...the Riva Ranch Reserve Chardonnay is amazing (made better by my husky being named Riva!) and its a great way to get a good taste of everything. Wander around and try the mustards and pestos and anything else they have out...great stuff!
If you are really lucky (we were) Karl Wente will cruise through. Not only do you get to see the heart of the winery but he is yummy! Sorry...but the truth is the truth!

I was pleasantly surprised at Wente after stopping at Rios Lovell. Wente has two tasting rooms, the estate tasting room on Tesla Rd and then the winery tasting room near the country club/restaurant which also has cave tastings. We stopped by the one on Tesla Rd. Anyhow, they had three tasting flight options: an Estate Grown (complimentary), Small Lot flight ($5), and an Nth Degree flight ($10). We sampled both from the Estate Grown and Small Lot flight. I was excited about the Small Lot wines since they are special releases that are created especially for wine club members and aren't available through distribution, but available for tastings. If I remember correctly, I think we sampled the
2006 Small Lot Viognier- crisp and clean
2006 Riverbank Riesling- one of the best whites i've ever had in general!! and i'm not a white fan either!
2005 Riva Ranch Chardonnary- dry but decliciously buttery
2004 Shorthorn Canyon Syrah- smooth and spicy
2005 Small Lot Cabernet Sauvignon- can't remember
2005 Small Lot Merlot- beautiful aromas, velvety smooth
2004 Small Lot Petit Verdot- well developed, full bodied and complex.
Anyhow, all were impeccable. I was very impressed by their wines all around. Definately a place I'd consider joining their quarterly wine club. I'm coming back to try their Nth degree wines!

Great for a watering hole stop...try the Small Lot and Nth Degree wines...will make you appreciate how spoiled we are to live in this area. Up the road my friend Joaquin Murrietta hung out in times past. Come and feel the Spirits!
